Christmas

Join Us each Sunday to Celebrate the Season of Advent!

Advent begins Sunday, December 1.
Services are every Sunday at 8:30am, 9:45am, and 11am.

Special Christmas Events:

Please join the Heavenly Metals as we ring in the season!
On December 15 Heavenly Metals will perform several Christmas selections throughout the traditional services, 8:30 and 11:00.  We hope you will be able to join us and take part in traditional service that day. We will perform the Christmas favorites - O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, Coventry Carol, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Joy to the World.  We will invite the congregation to join us in song as well. Let’s fill the pews and share in some music and fellowship.

Dinner and a Show!
Come and eat dinner and buy some yummy baked goods on December 14th from 5:30-6:30pm before the performance. Dinner is $5.00 and all proceeds will go to help the children’s ministry throughout the year.  Tickets will be for sale on Sundays or in the office throughout the week.
Sign-up sheets are posted by the children’s wing if you would consider helping to provide any yummy treats or with the dinner.

“The Journey To The Manger”
The Chancel Choir is preparing a cantata for December 22 and both 8:30 and 11:00am Services. This cantata is a group of choral pieces that Brian has put together to re-tell the story of the Birth of Jesus. There will be scripture readings between songs with slides to illustrate the message of the choral pieces. “The Journey To The Manger” begins with ”The Journey” by Lloyd Larson, which tells of the Wise Men from the East beginning their long trek following the Star. The heavens open with the host of angels singing “Et In Terra Pax” by John Purifoy. The angels then direct the shepherds to go to the Manger. “Shepherds Carol” written by Dan Forrest, gives us an insight to their emotions. “One Holy Night” by Gilbert Martin, shows us Mary and the newborn baby in the Manger. The cantata closes with “A Christmas Lullaby” rocking the baby Jesus to sleep.

Please plan to attend this wonderful presentation by the Chancel Choir. They have been rehearsing every Wednesday since early in October and would love to have you there for this special presentation.

Woodlawn UMC offers five special worship opportunities on Christmas Eve, you’re sure to find one that fits your schedule! All services will be invited to light and hold a candle in the darkness as we sing. Those who prefer contemporary music and a casual setting are invited to our first service at 3 PM in the Worship Center. All other services are held in the Sanctuary at 4:30, 6:00, 8:00 and 11:00 PM. Holy Communion will be served at the end of the 11 PM service. We hope you’ll be able to join us for one of these!
