Sunday School

Doing Life Together

Sunday Mornings at 8:45 am in the Church Parlor — Small Group/Sunday school Class members share the lead of the Sunday School lessons with a series of their choosing. We also focus on serving the community (Food Pantry, Open Door, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Lord's Diner, and many other opportunities).

The Victory Class

Sunday Mornings at 10 am in the Parlor — The purpose and focus of the Victory class Bible-based study is to deepen understanding, gain insights, and apply biblical teachings to our daily lives. Our class focuses not only on the study of scripture but on fellowship, support and service. We examine scripture passages, verse by verse, delving into its meaning, context, and application. We explore specific topics or themes throughout the Bible, focusing on relevant passages to gain a comprehensive understanding. We discuss the historical and cultural context of the biblical text to gain a deeper understanding of the customs, traditions, and societal norms of the time.

Spiritual Quest

Sunday Mornings at 10 am in 13E — We do a variety of bible studies by different authors. Several of us take turns teaching. We have about 15 or more in our class, between the ages of 45-50 & older. Women 40+ are welcome to join!We pray for each other when we have joys and concerns.

Christians Arising To Serve (CATS)

Sunday mornings at 9:45 am in the Chapel (12E) — Group is made-up of retirees - singles and marrieds. We use materials that usually have a video, a leader’s guide, and occasionally a book. Leadership for lessons is shared by participants. To meet for support, friendship, and discussion of spiritual ideas and thoughts. Everyone is welcome.

Adult Small Groups!

Your week at Woodlawn UMC could be PACKED with our activities. We offer an activity almost every day of the week! Explore some of the options below to find the right fit for you.

2nd Sunday Breakfast

Second Sunday of each month during the school year. Start Time: 7:00 am in the Church kitchen

Serve breakfast from 8:00 am to 9:45 am. All levels of preparing and serving breakfast are needed.

Grief Group

1st Sunday of each Month in the Parlor at 3:00 pm

If you have experienced the loss of a loved one, a job, or personal abilities, you do not have to go through it alone. Join our supportive space as you grieve that loss. All are Welcome.

Faith Keepers

10 am every Monday in Room 15E

This women’s group is focused on spiritual growth, friendship, and community.  We study a variety of topics agreed upon by the group.  We meet monthly for lunch after class.   We have done mission projects.  We meet socially once a month during our summer break.  Class will start back up after Labor Day. Everyone is welcome!  All members are encouraged to suggest studies, topics, or projects they are interested in doing in the future.

Sunshine Circle

Currently meeting on the 1st Monday of each month at 10 am in the Parlor.

All ladies are invited to attend from September through May

Monday Evening Live

1st & 3rd Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Parlor

We explore books based on progressive Christianity. We do various acts of service. All are welcome.

Faithfully Fit

Tuesdays & Thursdays at 4:00 pm in the basement of the Youth Center

Faithfully Fit Forever promotes physical fitness as well as social interaction. We stretch, strengthen muscles, and do cardio exercises.  There is a devotion, sharing of joys and concerns, and ending with prayer. The program is designed for those over the age of 50. We do not use mats, nor do we get on the floor.  Participants are encouraged to do as much or as little as they are able and feel comfortable.

Morning Circle

3rd Tuesday of each month at 10 am in the Parlor

We reflect on God’s desire for us to be in a group of women that brings us closer together in our spiritual walk. We provide programs, bible scriptures, community help, laughter, and fun. We are United Women of Faith!

Sip & Clip

Specified Wednesdays at 10 am in the Parlor

The purpose of the group is to help prepare materials/crafts/gifts for the children’s ministry. We join each other for coffee and treats, then sit and cut out/assemble craft materials for Sunday school, VBS, & holidays (including stuffing eggs for Easter and making goodie bags for Christmas & Halloween). At times, we will also make goodies for the parents over at Jack and Jill preschool to enjoy during pick-up!

Sanctuary Choir

Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in the Choir Room

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord! The purpose of the sanctuary choir is to work to prepare musical anthems to enhance the weekly sermon theme.  Multiple times a year, we love working with the bell choir and other musicians to prepare special music for Sundays. You do not have to be a musician to join us.  We welcome folks with open arms! Our choir is very dedicated, with most folks singing most Sundays, but we are open to folks to can only give one or two Sundays a month.  Our choir is rich in love, gifts, and service.  We also love to laugh!  Come join this amazing group of faithful witnesses, and come as you are.

Thursday Morning Men's Breakfast & Book Study

1st & 3rd Thursdays at 7 am at Spangles in Derby

Enjoy breakfast and fellowship over a book study!

PieceMakers Quilting Group

Thursdays – Alternating 9:30 AM & 5 PM – Check Bulletin or Church Calendar for specific times/dates.

The purpose of this group is to share Christ & the craft of quilting through the sharing of each other & the skill of piecing & quilting quilts for personal use &/or missions. Sewing or quilting experience is not required. We learn from each other & also need help with sewing & non-sewing tasks for missions such as congregational care, recognition of service, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Winterfest Opportunity Quilt (annual group project) to benefit DCFS.

Heavenly Metals Bell Choir

Directed by Adam Devault.

Thursday evenings at 7 pm in the Sanctuary. We usually rehearse during the school months only.

We ring during the 9 am service, once a month, except for June, July, & August.

Celebration Circle

First Thursday of the month, August to May, at 6:30 pm in room 15E

We are a group of ladies who enjoy spending time together and performing service projects. Come join us. Our service projects have included serving a meal at Ronald McDonald house, Valentine soup treat bags for our homebound members, and Children’s Christmas bags for Open Door.  Our service projects differ from year to year, and we are always open to new ideas. Please join us.

Page Turners Book Club

4th Thursday of each month (We do not meet in December) at 10 am in Room 15E

Participants all read the same book and come together for a discussion of various aspects of the selection. Perspectives are shared, and new insights are often found. At the November meeting, members come together to select the books for the following calendar year. Everyone chooses a month when they will lead the group discussion on the book they selected.

Open Door Lunch Crew

4th Thursday of each month in the Kitchen @ Woodlawn & then to the Open Door Resource Center in downtown Wichita

Leave church at 11 am & serve at Open Door at 11:30 am, then return to the church by 1pm.

To provide a nutritious lunch at the Homeless Resource Center for the men and women in need.  Volunteers from WUMC donate food and prepare and serve lunch on the 4th Thursday of each month for approximately 75-100 guests.  Our monthly lunch stays the same – macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, salad, rolls, and cookies. While it only requires 4-5 people to prepare and serve this monthly lunch, all are welcome to help!

Mom and Pop Diners

Group meets every 4th Thursday of each month @ 6PM at local “Mom and Pop” restaurants for food and fellowship. Contact Mike & Karen Brown, or call the office, to find out where they’re dining next!

Friday Bridge

Every other Friday, 1 – 4:30 PM

Playing bridge and rotating among the members’ homes. We share in fellowship and keeping our minds active!
