Our Missions

Woodlawn offers a wide range of Mission opportunities. If you would like more information, or would like to help with any of these missions, please call the church office at 316-788-1507.

Angel House Orphanage and Angel House Secondary School

In 2009, Woodlawn member Holly Heyroth Opundo, became a missionary for Angel House Orphanage. Her passion has led the congregation to partner with her to help this orphanage grow and to teach its children about the love of Christ. Many of our congregation sponsor children at Angel House as well as go on mission trips to Tanzania, Africa where Angel House is located, to share God's love and serve in whatever projects are needed.

Mini-missions at Woodlawn

It’s the little things we do that collectively add up in the long run to benefit the world around us. Here are a few current ways to chip in for the good of the church and the community at large.

  • Save your pop cans and bring them to church. Pluck off the pull-tabs for Ronald McDonald House and bring them to the office, place your cans in the container beside the pop machine in the Youth Center to be recycled and used toward youth missions.
  • WUMC earns cash rewards for purchases made using enrolled Dillon's Plus Cards. Enroll at dillons.com/communityrewards. An information sheet is available in the office. The more shoppers we get enrolled for Woodlawn, the more we will get in cash rewards.
  • Bring your unused coupon ads to the church office. Each week, a volunteer shopper uses the donated coupons to buy for soldier care packages, the food pantry, snack packs, and Youthville.
  • When you’re out grocery shopping, pick up an extra box of cereal, can of vegetables, or can of soup and donate it to the Food Pantry.
  • Do you shop online? Register for the UMC Market (www.umcmarket.org) and select Woodlawn UMC to receive donations from participating vendors from 3% to 9%.
  • Use AmazonSmile when you make Amazon purchases! AmazonSmile is available at smile.amazon.com on your web browser and can be activated in the Amazon Shopping app for iOS and Android phones. On your first visit to AmazonSmile, you will be prompted to select a charitable organization to receive donations from your future eligible AmazonSmile purchases. It will remember your selected charity whenever you shop at smile.amazon.com or with AmazonSmile activated in the Amazon Shopping app, and then every eligible purchase you make through AmazonSmile will result in a donation for your selected charity. AmazonSmile will occasionally contact you about donation amounts disbursed to your chosen charity or about the program. Support Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
