In 2009, Woodlawn member Holly Heyroth Opundo, became a missionary for Angel House Orphanage. Her passion has led the congregation to partner with her to help this orphanage grow and to teach its children about the love of Christ. Many of our congregation sponsor children at Angel House as well as go on mission trips to Tanzania, Africa where Angel House is located, to share God's love and serve in whatever projects are needed.
Serving residents of the USD 260 school district. Located at 4900 South Clifton, in Oaklawn. Services include The Food Pantry; The Good Samaritan Fund, which offers utility assistance; and Snack Packs for children at risk of not having food in their homes over the weekend.
Ember Hope provides specialized care and treatment programs to youth and families, foster care and permanent adoption services, treatment and therapeutic foster care, and clinical and community-based services.
GraceMed is a community health center that provides both medical and dental care for the people of Wichita, Sedgwick County, and Kansas. They treat the uninsured and the underinsured, as well as the insured.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian housing ministry, working in partnership with low-income families to help them improve their living conditions. You can help build a Habitat home.
Jack and Jill Preschool has served the Derby community for 50 years. Their experienced staff teach children a theme-based curriculum centered around kindergarten readiness using research-based methods. They offer 2-day, 3-day or 5-day preschool classes for three- and four-year-old children. And they are right next door to Woodlawn UMC!
The Lord's Diner exists to combat hunger in the community. The Diner's singular mission is to serve a nutritious meal with dignity and respect to anyone who is hungry.

Neighboring Movement is a nonprofit in the South Central (or “SoCe”) Neighborhood of Wichita, Kansas, that participates in, and teaches about, enhancing community through the practice of neighboring.
Operation Back-to-School provides backpacks and school supplies to needy children in the USD 260 school district. You can help collect supplies and assemble the backpacks.
Provide for basic human needs. Promote positive life changes. Restore hope and protect dignity. Open Door’s future focus is always to meet the basic needs of people in poverty in the most efficient and effective way possible, while collaborating with other agencies to do so.
This community wide mission provides USD 260 individuals and families in need with non-perishable food and grocery vouchers for perishable items. In addition, toys are given to children through 14 years of age, and gift cards to older teens. Hundreds of volunteers are needed each year to serve in this community-wide mission.
This mission supports military men and women who have been deployed overseas. Early each month, the troops on our list receive care packages filled with homemade baking, miscellaneous snacks and/or personal care items. Let us know if you know someone deployed that needs a touch of home. The service member does not need to be from Woodlawn.
The Pando Initiative connects Wichita, Derby and Haysville, Kansas students to people, communities and organizations, helping them build strength, vitality and the courage to take the initiative to succeed. With The Pando Initiative, each student can thrive.
The mission of Raise My Head Foundation is to provide women who are breaking free from sex trafficking a safe residence away from damaging influences where they can receive healing and restoration. They provide a large array of support services with the intent to give these women the opportunity for recovery, growth, and transformation.

VIM’s primary purpose is to radiate the love of Jesus Christ. Volunteers go to numerous locations in Kansas, the United States and around the world to build or repair churches, homes, camps, fresh water facilities, and many other projects. For more information, visit the Great Plains UMC website.
Our Winterfest craft show is held the first Saturday in December at Woodlawn UMC. The profits go to support various missions of our church. Help is always needed to set up booth spaces, staff the kitchen, support the vendors, and clean up afterward. More information HERE.
The Woodlawn Thrift Shop is located at 103 N. Baltimore, on the corner of K-15 and Washington in Derby. Stop by to browse our good-quality used clothes for all ages. We also have an assortment of small household items. Profits are contributed to various community programs such as Operation Holiday, Operation Back-to-School and the Good Samaritan Fund. The shop works with USD 260 social workers to provide necessities for school children. The Thrift Shop depends on the donations of clothing and small household items from church members and the community.
