Meets every Wednesday evening 6:30-8:00 beginning September 5.
936 weeks. That's the approximate time you have from the moment your child is born until he or she graduates from high school. It goes by fast, and kids change and grow quickly. Just as you begin to figure them out, they shift or move on to a new rhythm, a new habit, and a new opinion. It can make the responsibility to shape a child's faith and character feel overwhelming. But it doesn't have to. Check out the new Parenting Through the Phases Small Group Study launching September 12th! Click HERE to register!
Truth is, a mere handful of fears work for us–fear of stepping in front of a bus, for example, or not taking care of our health. But the vast majority–fear of others, of failure, of the future–have almost no basis in reality, yet tie us in knots and steal our peace of mind. These fears, experts say, are often vestiges of primitive ‘fight, flight, or freeze’ instincts that, mostly, no longer apply. Making matters worse, our hyper fractious era of hate media, divisive politics, and multiplying natural disasters wreak havoc on our state of mind, leaving us troubled and unhappy.
Fortunately there’s abundant good news. As trusted pastor and bestselling author Adam Hamilton shows in Unafraid, we can escape the echo chamber of anxiety and dread. With insight, intention and faith, we can learn to overcome what oppresses us, and live with courage and hope.
Drawing on fresh research, psychology, biblical principles, and his long experience shepherding a diverse faith community in Red State America, Hamilton helps readers untangle the knots of fear and truly embrace Jesus’s recurring counsel: “Do not be afraid.” He writes with generosity and intelligence for a wide audience in accessible language that will ring true to believer and unbeliever alike.
For anyone struggling with fear, worry, or anxiety, or who wonders how families and communities can live as peacemakers in troubled times, Unafraid offers an informed and inspiring message full of practical solutions.

LIVE A LIFE OF MEANING AND CONNECTION
Instead of pushing for perfection
A few years ago, I found myself exhausted and isolated, my soul and body sick. I was tired of being tired, burned out on busy. And, it seemed almost everyone I talked with was in the same boat: longing for connection, meaning, depth, but settling for busy.
I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, writer, and I know all too well that settling feeling. But over the course of the last few years, I ve learned a way to live, marked by grace, love, rest, and play. And it s changing everything.
Present Over Perfect is an invitation to this journey that changed my life. I ll walk this path with you, a path away from frantic pushing and proving, and toward your essential self, the one you were created to be before you began proving and earning for your worth.
Written in Shauna s warm and vulnerable style, this collection of essays focuses on the most important transformation in her life, and maybe yours too: leaving behind busyness and frantic living and rediscovering the person you were made to be. Present Over Perfect is a hand reaching out, pulling you free from the constant pressure to perform faster, push harder, and produce more, all while maintaining an exhausting image of perfection.
Shauna offers an honest account of what led her to begin this journey, and a compelling vision for an entirely new way to live: soaked in grace, rest, silence, simplicity, prayer, and connection with the people that matter most to us.
In these pages, you ll be invited to consider the landscape of your own life, and what it might look like to leave behind the pressure to be perfect and begin the life-changing practice of simply being present, in the middle of the mess and the ordinariness of life.

We experience grief due to many kinds of losses. Of course, the common cause is the death of a loved one---spouse, child, any family member, close friend. But, grief comes due to many other losses: loss of health, loss of relationship (divorce), loss of home (moving), loss of a pet, loss of a job. All grief can be painful and demands recovery.
Did you know that Woodlawn now has it's own grief-support group? It meets each Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. We call the group "Healing Hope". If you have experienced a loss, we invite you to attend for any number of weeks you feel is needed.
In January, "Healing Hope" will begin using a new curriculum called "GriefShare". "GriefShare" is a network of thousands of grief recovery support groups meeting around the world. "GriefShare" is a program, including excellent curriculum resources (video and workbook), with direction and purpose. With "GriefShare" you will learn how to walk the journey through grief and find friendly, helpful support and supporters along your journey. It is a place and a process in which hurting people find healing and hope. We plan to begin using "GriefShare" on January 10th.
"GriefShare" is written and videos hosted by David and Nancy Guthrie who have faced the deaths of two of their three children. They know grief! They share with grieving persons in their books, videos, and retreats what they have learned first-hand on their own journey through grief. Their experience can be of great help to you.
