UMW was formed over 135 years ago by a group of women belonging to the Methodist Church in Boston, MA. Their purpose is "to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church."
UMW Circles Meet Monthly and times and locations vary. For more information please email
Though many parts, we are one body. We rejoice with and for each other. We encourage and build each other up. We bear each other’s burdens. The following are ministries of pastoral and congregational care at Woodlawn. For more information, contact Rev. Vic Calcote at 316-788-1507.
Neighborhood Care Units – Small caring units are created according to neighborhoods and provide care to those who live nearby in times of joy and in times of need.
Funeral Dinners – On the day of the service we offer a meal to families in their time of loss.
Caring Callers – A compassionate caller reaches out to members who are unable to attend worship services.
Bundle of Joy – In celebration, Woodlawn welcomes each baby with a rose and a special basket.
College Care – We offer encouragement to our college students by remaining in contact, making them aware of special events at Woodlawn, and sending occasional care packages.
Library – Our library volunteers provide an abundance of Christian reading material and videos. The library also serves as a great resource for educational material.
Card Ministry – This team quietly offers support to our members by sending special cards. It is our way of letting members know we are thinking about them.
Stephen Ministry – Our specially trained Stephen Ministers offer personalized, confidential, Christian care for all kinds of needs and circumstances. CLICK HERE for more information.
Homebound Communion Ministry - Communion is served by Pastor Vic on a quarterly basis to those who are homebound.
Through a partnership with Friends University, Woodlawn offers free counseling services with students in the Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy program. If you would like to meet with one of these therapists, please contact them directly, shown on Our Staff page.
