Woodlawn's Values
The following are values we treasure and are seeking to develop as disciples of Jesus Christ:
We surrender our lives to Christ each day:
Jesus said, “If people want to follow me, they must give up the things they want. They must be willing to give up their lives daily to follow me.” (Luke 9:23)
We love and regularly worship God:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” (Matt. 22:37-38)
We love and care for each other:
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)
We seek a deep personal friendship with God:
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him. (Lamentations 3:25)
We regularly spend time in prayer:
“But if you stay in me and obey my commands, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted! My true disciples produce bountiful harvests. This brings great glory to my Father.” (John 15: 7-8)
We share Christ with those who don’t know Him:
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand. And it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matt. 5:14-16)
We work together as a unified Body of Christ to fulfill His purposes:
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:5-6)
We give back to God a portion of the wealth He gives to us:
“No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and wealth.” (Matthew 6:24)
We engage in ongoing Bible study:
“If you continue in my word, then you are my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
We serve the least, the last and the lost when and where God calls us:
“Then the King will tell those on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in. I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.'
"Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?'
“The King will answer them, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'“ (Matt. 25:34-40)
